What is happening?

A21 TRUNK ROAD

(MOAT LANE TO JUNCTION ROAD, BALDSLOW)

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A21 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be to authorise the overnight closure of:

a)   both carriageways of the A21 between Moat Lane and Junction Road Baldslow;

b)   the road leading from the southbound carriageway of the A21 at its junction with the A28;

c)   all side roads at junction with the carriageways described in a) above; and

d)   all bus stops adjacent to the carriageways described in a) above.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake a street lighting renewal scheme and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately four months starting on or after Monday 28th September 2026. The overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00  hours.

The Order would come into force on the  26th September 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

Through traffic affected by the closures would be strategically diverted using the A2100 and Junction Road, Baldslow, in either direction. Traffic joining the A21 south of Johns Cross other than local residential would be directed to turn northbound to join the main diversion. Traffic joining from the A28 would be directed to use Maplehurst Road, The Ridge, and Junction

Road, which can be used in reverse to join the A28 to go north. Residential access on the  A21 would be maintained under works control.

The temporary closures and diversions would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
