THE M62 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 9 EASTBOUND ENTRY SLIP ROAD) & M6 (JUNCTION 23 SOUTHBOUND ENTRY SLIP ROAD) & M60 (JUNCTION 12 CLOCKWISE TO M62 WESTBOUND LINK ROAD) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M62 Motorway in the Borough of Warrington, in the County of Cheshire to allow the Birchwood Motorway Service Area Interchange Improvement works; to be carried out in safety.

The Order will ban all traffic from the following sections of the M62, M6 and M60 Motorways:

i. the M62 eastbound entry slip road at J9;

ii. the M6 southbound entry slip road at J23;

iii. the M60 clockwise J12 to M62 westbound link road;

iv. the M62 ERA bay adjacent to the westbound carriageway, located 4,000 metres west of the M62 westbound exit slip road at J11;

v. the M62 ERA bay adjacent to the westbound carriageway, located 1,500 metres west of the M62 westbound exit slip road at J11;

vi. the M62 ERA bay adjacent to the eastbound carriageway, located 2,300 metres east of the M62 eastbound exit slip road at J11;

vii. the M62 ERA bay adjacent to the eastbound carriageway, located 900 metres east of the M62 eastbound exit slip road at J11;

viii. the M62 ERA bay adjacent to the westbound carriageway, located 1,200 metres west of the M62 westbound exit slip road at J19;

ix. the M6 ERA bay adjacent to the southbound carriageway, located 1,300 metres north of the M6 southbound exit slip road at J23;

x. the M6 ERA bay adjacent to the southbound carriageway, located 3,400 metres north of the M6 southbound exit slip road at J22.

The prohibitions are expected to be in place overnight between 21:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Wednesday 7 October 2026 and ending on Friday 16 October 2026 (subject to signage).

However, work may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights until completed.

Diversions routes via alternative junctions of the M62, M6 and M60 Motorways and local roads will be well signed.

The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, special-forces vehicles, works vehicles, or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
