What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD

(PORTOBELLO, BIRTLEY - VARIOUS FOOTPATH AND ROAD CLOSURES) (PHASE 2)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that on the 9 September 2026 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians and vehicles from proceeding along the footpaths and roads as set out in Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 below. 

The Order is required to facilitate works to insert new water mains network and reinstatement. The Order will come into force on 14 September 2026. 

The maximum duration of the Order will be 6 months for the footpath closures, and 18 months for the road closures. The works are expected to be completed by the 14 March 2027. 

During the works all pedestrians and vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along the footpaths and roads as set out in Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 below until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the works there will be signed diversions in place.
