What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Public Rights of Way, Footpath Numbers 10,12,13,14,15,16,17 Urpeth Parish, Forge Bank Plantation, Beamish) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026

The above-named Order made by the Council on 13/3/2026, under section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and which became operational on 16/3/2026 has been continued in force from 16/9/2026, as approved by the Secretary of State for Transport, until 16/3/2027 or until completion of the works, whichever is the earlier. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of footpath. Footpath Numbers 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 Urpeth Parish, in their entirety between Hammer square Bank and Footpath Numbers 25 & 26 north of Peggys Wicket to enable tree removal works to be undertaken under a Statutory Plant Health Notice directive. There is no signed alternative route for pedestrian traffic during the felling process.
