West Rainton - Temporary Road Closure & Right Turn Ban for Water Main Renewal Works

The County Council of Durham (Benridge Bank, West Rainton) (Temporary Road Closure & Prohibition of Right Turn) Order 2026
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit and restrict all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road in the manner described Road Closure a 63 metre length of Benridge Bank that extends westerly from A690 to its junction with Allenson View. Prohibition of Right Turn No vehicular traffic shall turn right from the A690 south westbound carriageway at the central reserve crossover leading to Benridge Bank, West Rainton to enable water main renewal works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the eastern side of the closure from A690 north easterly to Rainton Gate turning west onto B1284 then south east at the roundabout to B1284 Four Lane Ends Roundabout, south on Durham Road through East Rainton onto A690 then south westerly, turning north into Bells Hill Road onto Lea Riggs and Chantry Place leading to the western side of the closure, and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on 21/9/2026 and anticipated to be completed in 4 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
