Workington - Temporary Traffic Restrictions for The Festival of Curious Things

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (U2664 MURRAY ROAD AND U2728 FINKLE STREET, WORKINGTON (THE FESTIVAL OF CURIOUS THINGS) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of The Festival of Curious Things (“the Event”) in Workington, Cumberland Council has made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the 1984 Act), the effect of which is to impose the following restrictions on the days and during the hours specified below: -
1. To prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of the U2664 Murray Road, Workington from junction with the entrance/exit of Workington Bus Station, extending for approx. 175m to its junction with Finkle Street/Pow Street.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times. A suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via Oxford Street, Vulcans Lane and Finkle Street.
NB: To facilitate the alternative route and allow two-way traffic flow during the closure of Murray Road, the existing one-way traffic restriction on Finkle Street will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the Event.
2. To prohibit any vehicle from waiting at any time, on any day and/or from loading and unloading at any time, on any day (including blue badge holders) along both sides of the U2728 Finkle Street, from its junction with the U2458 Vulcans Lane, to its junction with the U2664 Murray Road.

The Order will come into operation on 11 September 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of three days from that date. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required from 2000 hours on Friday 11 September 2026 to 1900 hours on Saturday 12 September 2026, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
