(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M61 Motorway, in the Borough of Chorley, in the County of Lancashire, to enable resurfacing, renewal of road markings and studs works, and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety. The Order will impose a 50-mph speed limit on the northbound carriageway of the M61 Motorway, from a point 765 metres north of the entry slip road from Rivington Services to the J8 Roundabout South Bridge.
The restriction is expected to take place during an overnight period between 20:00 and 06:00 (continuing to 07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings), starting on Monday 5 October 2026 and ending on Saturday 27 February 2026.
However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights or continue until completed.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles and will apply to works, traffic officer or winter maintenance vehicles. The restrictions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
