ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTIONS 14(1)(a) AND (7) AND 15(2)

THE A5 AND A43 TRUNK ROADS (TOWCESTER, WEST NORTHAMPTONSHIRE)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company no. 9346363) intends to make an Order on the A5 and A43 Trunk Roads at Towcester, in West Northamptonshire, to enable improvement and traffic calming works to be carried out. The effect of the Order, will be to –

(1)  impose a 50 miles per hour speed limit on –

(a)  the northbound carriageway of the A43 between points 272 metres southwest and 54 metres northeast of the centrepoint of its roundabout junction with Taunton Way, near Towcester; and

(b)  the southbound carriageway of the A43 between points 516 metres northeast and 309 metres northeast of the centrepoint of its roundabout junction with the A5 and Towcester Road (Towcester Roundabout), at Towcester;

(2)  impose a 40 miles per hour speed limit on –

(a)  the northbound carriageway of the A43 from a point 54 metres northeast of the centrepoint of its roundabout junction with Taunton Way, to a point 309 metres

northeast of the centrepoint of Towcester Roundabout; and

(b)  the southbound carriageway of the A43 from a point 309 metres northeast of the centrepoint of Towcester Roundabout, to a point 54 metres northeast of the centrepoint of its roundabout junction with Taunton Way; and

(3)  close, at different times, lengths of –

(a)  the A5 between its roundabout junction with Taunton Way, near Heathencote, and its junction with Towcester Roundabout; and

(b)  the A43 between its roundabout junction with Taunton Way and its junction with Tiffield Road, at Towcester.

The work is expected to start on Monday  5 October 2026 and continue for approximately nineteen months. The Order will come into force on 2 October 2026 and will remain in force until the work is completed.

Any vehicle being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions and closures. Special forces vehicles will be exempt from the speed restrictions and vehicles being used in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures. Access to premises will be maintained at all times.
