Essex - Multiple Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions
What is happening?
Essex County Council
(Bridleway 24, Heybridge) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close Bridleway 24 Heybridge in the District of Maldon, from its junction with footpath 57 to its junction with footpath 12, with additional gate at junction with footpath 58, for approximately 500 metres.
Pedestrians Only – From its junction with Bridleway 60 north to its junction with Footpath 57.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 07 September 2026 to 20 November 2026 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while the replacement of the existing floodgates is undertaken.
Alternative routes:
Pedestrians – Footpath 57, Footpath 53, Footpath 44, Footpath 55, Footpath 11, Footpath 12 and vice versa.
Equestrians and Cyclist – Bridleway 60 (from FP 24) west to the Blackwater Trail and vice versa.
Pedestrians from FP58 – Upstream traffic redirected downstream along Footpath 24, Footpath 57, then follow signed diversion.
The Order will come into effect on 07 September 2026 and may continue in force for 6 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Footpath 24, Tollesbury) (Temporary Prohibition of Use) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.
Effect of the order: To temporary close Footpath 24, Tollesbury, in the District of Maldon, from its junction with Footpath 18 to its junction with Woodrolfe Road.
Diversion route: Woodrolfe Road, Footpath 18 and vice versa.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 07 September 2026 to 09 October 2026 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting. The closure is required for the safety of the public to allow maintenance to the embankment to be undertaken.
The Order will come into effect on 07 September 2026 may continue in force for 6 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Scraley Road, Great Totham) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Scraley Road, Great Totham in the District of Maldon, from a point approximately 895m south west of its junction with Chigborough Road for a distance of approximately 50m in a south westerly direction.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 5th October 2026 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP20149232800 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while silt clearance and CCTV works are undertaken by Essex County Council.
An alternative route is available via Scraley Road, B1022, B1026, Chigborough Road, Scraley Road and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 10th September 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Broad Street Green Road, Heybridge) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Broad Street Green Road, Heybridge in the District of Maldon, from a point approximately 55m north of its junction with Wood Road for a distance of approximately 30m in a northerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 22nd September 2026 for 8 days, or where stated on a valid permit (N5004P105516N0025386-R1 – The Electricity Network Company Limited). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while electrical works are undertaken by The Electricity Network Company Limited.
An alternative route is available via B1022, B1023, B1026, B1022 and vice versa.

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Cromwell Hill, Maldon in the District of Maldon, from a point approximately 50m north east of its junction with Silver Street for a distance of approximately 60m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 18th September 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC411001WGTNL78L – Openreach). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while duct laying works are undertaken by Openreach.

(Hillcrest, Mayland) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Hillcrest, Mayland in the District of Maldon, from a point approximately 50m north of its junction with Wembley Avenue for a distance of approximately 30m in north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 21st September 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30046441950 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

(Southminster Road, St. Lawrence) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Southminster Road, St. Lawrence in the District of Maldon, from a point approximately 790m west of its junction with Tillingham Road for a distance of approximately 165m in a northerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 21st September 2026 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EN014M194228 – Essex and Suffolk Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while service disconnection works are undertaken by Essex And Suffolk Water.
An alternative route is available via St Lawrence Hill, Reddings Lane, Tillingham Road and vice versa (with access only into Southminster Road).
The Order came into effect on 27th August 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Various Roads, District of Maldon) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) Order (No.5) 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
1. To temporarily close that length of road in the District of Maldon as specified in the schedule to this Order.
2. To introduce temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above length of road for the duration of the closure to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force."
The Essex County Council (Maldon District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019" will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above length of road only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.
The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 27th August 2026 exact dates will be specified on one.network. The road will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion route will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the roads.
