EXPERIMENTAL REVOCATION OF 7.5 TONNE HGV RESTRICTION EXCEPT FOR LOADING, ANCHORAGE ROAD

1. Notice is hereby given that Portsmouth City Council has, on 2 September 2026, made the following experimental Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984: The Portsmouth City Council (Weight Restrictions) (Anchorage Road) (Experimental Revocation) Order 2026
2. The effect of the Order, which will come into operation on 14 September 2026, will be: to revoke the existing prohibition of HGVs over 7.5 tonnes (except for loading) on Anchorage Road between Sywell Crescent Roundabout and Williams Road Roundabout.
3. Copies of the made Order, Statement of Reasons and Map are available to view on Portsmouth City Council’s website: Search 'Traffic Regulation Orders 2026" at

www.portsmouth.gov.uk.

Alternatively, they can be viewed at the Civic Offices, Guildhall Square, PO1 2AL, Monday to Friday between 9am - 4pm. Printed copies can be obtained by calling 023 9260 6480.
4. If the provisions of the Order continue in operation for a period of at least six months, the Council will consider in due course whether the provisions of the experimental Order should be continued in force indefinitely by means of a permanent Order. Any person desiring to object to the making of an Order for the purpose of such indefinite continuation may, within six months of the experimental Order coming into operation, send a statement in writing of the objection and the grounds on which it is made to

5. The Order provides for the Assistant Director for Transport or any person authorised by them to modify or suspend the Order or any provision of it, if it appears to them or that person essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic or for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road affected by the Order runs.
6. If any person wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the 1984 Act, or that any requirement of the Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with, that person may, within 6 weeks from the date on which the Order is made, apply for the purpose to the High Court.
