What is happening?

NATIONAL HIGHWAYS
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 - Section 14(1)(A) And (7) The A1(M) Motorway (Junction 7 To 8) (Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 202_

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that NATIONAL HIGHWAYS LIMITED(a) intends to make an Order on the A1(M) Motorway at Stevenage in the District of North Hertfordshire in the County of Hertfordshire to enable safety barrier and drainage works to be carried out in safety.

The works would take place over approximately 5 months, starting on, or after Wednesday 30 September 2026.

The effect of the Order would be to impose, for 24 hours daily, a temporary speed limit of 40 miles per hour or 50 miles per hour, and to allow hard shoulder running on the A1(M) -
- northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 7 to the entry slip road at Junction 8, and
- southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 8 to the entry slip road at Junction 7.

The temporary speed limit (which would not apply to emergency service or special forces vehicles) would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.

The Order would come into force on 21 September 2026 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed, or for a maximum duration of eighteen months whichever is the earlier.
