What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(JOHN DOBSON STREET AND DURANT ROAD)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne intend, not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

1. The effect of the order is to: -
a. suspend the existing Bus Lane restrictions on:
i. Market Street, eastbound - from its junction with Oxford Street in an easterly direction for a distance of 25 metres, and,
ii. Market Street, westbound - from its junction with Carliol Street to its junction with Pilgrim Street.
iii. John Dobson Street - both directions - from its junction with Ridley Place to its junction with St Mary's Place.
b. prohibit any vehicular traffic to proceed on; -
i. John Dobson Street, between New Bridge Street and Saville Row
ii. Durant Road, between Saville Place Carpark and Durant Road.

2. Appropriate traffic management will be in place during the temporary suspension of the bus lane.

3. The alternative route for traffic will be signed on site as required.

4. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles engaged in the works.

5. The Order will come into operation on 27 September 2026 at 07:00 and will continue, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed, up to 27 September 2026 at 19:00 or until the proposed works are completed, whichever is the earlier.
