What is happening?
BURY COUNCIL
THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH OF BURY (CECIL STREET AREA, BURY) (20 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2025 AND TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Bury Metropolitan Borough Council intends to make the above named Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as follows:-
20 mph speed limit applying to the following streets:

| Edward Street | From Cecil Street for 70m in a south easterly direction |
| Margaret Street | From Edward Street for 18m in a north easterly direction |
Furthermore the Council proposes to introduce the following traffic calming measures under Sections 90A and 90C of the Highways Act 1980 and the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999:-
75mm high flat top road humps which are 4m long with 1:12 ramps.

A copy of the draft 20mph Speed Limit Order, plans showing the roads and areas affected, a schedule of all streets included and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order and introducing the proposals may be requested by email at traffic.calming@bury.gov.uk quoting reference TM23/16/350 or by inspection at the Town Hall, Mon-Fri, 9am-4:30pm.
All representations whether in support or objecting to the proposals, together with the grounds on which they are made must be made in writing and sent to the Traffic Team, Bury Council, Bradley Fold depot, 34, Bradley Fold Road, Ainsworth, Radcliffe, Bury, Bl2 6RS or preferably by email to TROobjections@bury.gov.uk quoting ref: TM23/16/350 reference above by 24th September 2026. Please note that all representations received may be considered in public by the Council and that the substance of any representation together with the name and address of the person making it could become available for public inspection.
