Carrville - Temporary Road Closure for Resurfacing & Traffic Calming Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (Wantage Road and Grinstead Way, Carrville) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026
The Council on 13/3/2026 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road.
A 445 metre length of Wantage Road that extends northwards from its junction with Broomside Lane and including junctions with Wantage Road, Romney Drive, Filbey Drive and Kinley Road and also, a 40 metre length of Grinstead Way, extending west from its junction with Kinley Road, including the junction with the road leading to Carrville High Street to enable carriageway resurfacing and traffic calming installation works to be undertaken.
An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the northern side of the closures, from High Street, Carrville, south westerly and easterly on Broomside Lane to the southern side of the closure and vice versa.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works due to commence on Monday 23/3/2026 were delayed and will now commence on 7/9/2026 between 9am and 3pm for the duration of the works anticipated to be 5 days. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
