What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Unclassified road 27.5, Browney Lane, Sunderland Bridge) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road.

A 40 metre length of Unclassified road 27.5 that extends north westerly from the barrier adjacent to the A167, Sunderland Bridge to enable new manhole construction works to be undertaken.

There is no alternative route available to vehicular traffic during the works. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are required from Monday 21/9/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be 8 days. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
