NOTICE OF APPLICATION TO STOP UP PART OF THE HIGHWAY LAND AT PRIORY FIELDS RETAIL PARK, TAUNTON

Notice is hereby given that Somerset Council will apply to Taunton Magistrates' Court, sitting at The Magistrates' Court, St John's Road, Taunton, TA1 4AX, at 10:00am on Tuesday 6 October 2026 for an Order under section 116 of the Highways Act 1980 authorising the stopping up of the highway at Priory Fields Retail Park, Taunton, shown hatched black on plan reference NIDR-SJP-SUO-1001, on the ground that the highway is unnecessary. The effect of the Order, if made, will be to extinguish all public rights of way over the land in question.

A copy of the draft Order and Plan (reference NIDR-SJP-SUO-1001) may be inspected free of charge at the Council Offices at:

? Deane House, Belvedere Road, Taunton TA1 1HE between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm Monday to Fridays (excluding bank holidays and public holidays) from the date hereof until 6 October 2026. Any person to whom this Notice has been given or who uses the highway specified or who would be aggrieved by the making of the Order has a right to appear before the Magistrates' Court to raise an objection or make a representation on the application.

Any person intending to appear before the Magistrates' Court at the hearing of the application is requested to inform Gemma Davidson at Somerset Council by email to Gemma.Davidson@somerset.gov.uk before 6 October 2026 quoting reference Legal/10740804/GD.
