THE A1 TRUNK ROAD (BRAMPTON) AND THE A14
TRUNK ROAD (JUNCTION 21 NEW ELLINGTON TO JUNCTION 24 SWAVESEY, CAMBRIDGESHIRE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 202_
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the A1 Trunk Road and the A14 Trunk Road in the County of Cambridgeshire to enable drainage and resurfacing works to be carried out in safety.
The works would start on or after Friday 18 September 2026 and are expected to last for approximately 2 months.
The effect of the Order on the A1 and A14 would be to -1. Impose, for 24 hours daily, a speed restriction of 40mph or 50mph on the
- • A14 eastbound carriageway from 1600 metres southeast of the entry slip road at Junction 21 New Ellington for 3200 metres, and
• A14 westbound carriageway from 2400 metres west of the entry slip road at Junction 23 Ermine Street for 2700 metres.
2. Close for full weekends (8pm Friday - 6am Monday) the -
• A14 eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 21 New Ellington to the Ermine Street Maintenance entry slip road at Junction 23,
• A14 westbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 24 Swavesey to the entry slip road at Junction 21 New Ellington,
• link roads connecting the -
• southbound carriageway of the A1 at Brampton with the eastbound carriageway of the A14 at Junction 22 Brampton Interchange,
• westbound carriageway of the A14 with the northbound carriageway of the A1 at Brampton Interchange, and
• all slip roads to or from these carriageways and link roads.
All lay-bys situated adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described at 2 above will be closed for 24 hours daily.
For closures eastbound traffic would be diverted east from New Ellington Roundabout to Brampton Hut, south on the A1, east on the A428 and merge onto the A14 at Girton: vice-versa for westbound traffic.
The temporary speed limit (which would not apply to emergency services or special forces vehicles), closures (which would not apply to emergency service, winter maintenance or works vehicles) and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
Access to property would be maintained during the closures.
The Order would come into force on 18 September 2026 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed, or for a maximum duration of eighteen months whichever is the earlier.
