What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Hunwick, North Bitchburn & Howden-Le-Wear) (Prohibition of Waiting and Stopping) Order 2011 (Amendment No 1) Order 2026

The Council on 24/8/2026 made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 32 and 35 and part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 “the Act”), as amended, the effect of which comes into operation on 4/9/2026 and will bring into force the following restrictions:-

‘No Waiting at any time’ restrictions:

a) on the northern side of the junction from the B6286, Front Street into West End, starting from a point adjacent to 3 metres south-easterly of No.2 Front Street, for a distance of 21 metres in a south-westerly direction.

b) on the southern side of junction from the B6286, Front Street into West End, starting from a point adjacent to 3 metres north-easterly of No.1 Helmington Square, for a distance of 56 metres in a north-westerly direction leading into Oakfields junction.

c) on the western side of the junction from West End into Oakfields, starting from a point adjacent to No.6 Helmington Square, for a distance of 24 metres in a south-easterly direction.

d) on the western side of the junction of West End into Oxford Street, starting from a point 2 metres east of No.1 West End for a distance of 21 metres in a north-easterly direction.

e) on the eastern side of the junction of West End into Oxford Street, starting from a point 3 metres east of No.6 Helmington Square for a distance of 15 metres in a north-westerly direction.

f) on the west side of Oxford Street, starting from a point 28 metres south-east of the corner of Hall View and Oxford Street, for a distance of 11 metres in a south-easterly direction

g) on the east side of Oxford Street, starting from a point adjacent to 35 metres south-east of the corner of Hall View and Oxford Street, for a distance of 10 metres in a south-easterly direction.

h) on the northern side of Hall View, starting from a point adjacent to the east side of No.1 Hall View, for a distance of 14 metres in a south-easterly direction.

i) On the southern side of Hall View, starting from a point adjacent to the west side of No.1 Hall View, for a distance of 13 metres in a south-easterly direction.

Also ‘No loading’ Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm’ restrictions:

a) on the western side of School Street, starting from a point adjacent to No. 2 School Street, for a distance of 27 metres in a south-easterly direction

b) on the western Side of School Street, starting from a point 2 metres south-east of No.13 School Street, for a distance of 30 metres in a south-easterly direction.

A copy of the Order and supporting documents can be seen via the Council website, and at Crook Library during normal opening hours. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by “the Act”, as amended, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any regulation made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within 6 weeks from 24/8/2026.
