NATIONAL HIGHWAYS
M1 Motorway – Junctions 6a – 5 - Temporary Traffic Restrictions

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway in the County of Hertfordshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be to authorise the overnight closure of the southbound carriageway of the M1 between Junction 6a (M25 Junction 21) and Junction 5 (A41/A4008), and all the slip roads leading to and from said length of carriageway.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake surveys concerning, and resurfacing of, the carriageway and all associated works.

It is expected that the work would commence on 26th September 2026 and last for approximately two weeks. All overnight closures would occur between 21:00 and 06:00 hours. Details would be available on the National Highways website.

The Order would come into force on 29th August 2026 for a maximum of eighteen months, ceasing on completion of the works.

Traffic affected by the closure already on the M1 would be diverted anticlockwise on the M25 to Junction 20 (A41) then eastbound on the A41 to M1 Junction 5. Traffic wishing access the M1 at Junction 6 (A405) would be diverted southbound on the A405 to Leavesden Green roundabout then join the diversion above.

The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
