What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (THWAITES LANE, WINDERMERE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along that section of Thwaites Lane, from its junction with Bowfell Crescent, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 55 metres.

A suitable alternative route for all traffic will be signed and available;

Northbound Traffic Alternative Route: via Claife Avenue, Droomer Drive, Oak Street, Woodland Road, Broad Street, A5074, Main Road, Elleray Road, Church Street, (A591), Kendal Road, and the unrestricted section of Thwaites Lane.

Southbound Traffic Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Thwaites Lane, Kendal Road (A591), Church Street, Elleray Road (A5074), Crescent Road, Broad Street, Woodland Road, Oak Street, Droomer Drive and Claife Avenue.

The Order will come into operation on 11th September 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 1 day and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
