ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – (PUBLIC FOOTPATH NO. 5 (PART) IN THE PARISH OF ALDERLEY EDGE) – Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians Order 2026

Notice is hereby given pursuant to the provisions of Section 14 (1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, that the Cheshire East Borough Council has made an Order the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians on the following:

That part length of Public Footpath No. 5 Alderley Edge which commences at OS grid reference (OSGR) SJ 8380 7805 and runs in a generally north direction for approx. 160m. to OSGR SJ 8384 7820.

The closure is necessary to protect the public from danger posed by cabling installation works due to be carried out on or near the Public Right of Way.

The Order came into force on 24th August 2026 and will continue in force for a period of six months, or until the works are completed, whichever is the sooner.

An alternative route is available via Blackshaw Lane.

The Order does not prevent at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the path or way affected by this Order

Cheshire East Borough Council – Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians Order 2026 – Footpath No’s 76 and 133 in the Parish of Wilmslow, and Footpath No’s 14, 18, 25 and 26 in the Parish of Handforth

Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of State for Transport in pursuance of the power conferred upon him by sub-section (5) of Section 15 of the aforementioned Act, has approved the Order effective from the 23rd February 2026 being extended and continuing in force until 23rd August 2029 or until the completion of the works whichever is the earlier. The current effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit pedestrians on the following lengths of Public Footpath:

Public Footpath No.76 Wilmslow which commences at OSGR (OS grid reference) SJ 8661 8222 and runs north easterly for 205m to OSGR 8674 8237 and then runs north, north westerly for 94m to OSGR 8669 8245 and then runs north, north easterly for 188m to OSGR 8675 8263 and then runs north easterly for 50m to OSGR SJ 8678 8266.

Public Footpath No.133 Wilmslow which commences at OSGR SJ 8677 8265 and runs northerly for 22m to OSGR 8677 8267.

Public Footpath No.14 Handforth which commences at OSGR SJ 8678 8266 and runs north easterly for 131m to OSGR SJ 8686 8275 and then runs east, north easterly for 494m to OSGR SJ 8729 8298.

Public Footpath No.18 Handforth which commences at OSGR SJ 8674 8286 and runs north, north westerly for 501m to OSGR SJ 8653 8317.

Public Footpath No.25 Handforth which commences at OSGR SJ 8677 8267 and runs northerly for 7m to OSGR SJ8677 8268 and then runs easterly for 17m to OSGR SJ8678 8268 and then runs east, south easterly for 14m to OS grid reference SJ 8680 8267.

Public Footpath No.26 Handforth which commences at OSGR SJ 8674 8286 and runs south, south westerly for 271m to OSGR 8661 8263 and then runs south easterly for 60m to OSGR 8666 8259 and then runs north easterly for 111m to OSGR 8673 8268 and then runs easterly for 40m to OSGR SJ 8677 8268.

All directions are general and all distances approximate.

The closure is necessary to protect the public from danger posed by an unsafe bridge, and the collapse of part of the riverbank to the north of the bridge that has destroyed part of the public footpath in that area. The closure will be required until the dangers can be resolved to provide safe passage for the public over the river again.
