South Lakeland - Multiple Temporary Road Closures due to Highway Works

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) (NO.2) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.

Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.

Westmorland and Furness Highways will ensure that local residents and the general public are informed of which roads are to be closed and when, nearer the time.

The Order will come into operation on 14th September 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 1 month and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

Alternative Route for North Bound Non Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A591, A592, A5091, A66 (Keswick), A591, Rydal Road and Lake Road. Alternative Route for South Bound Non Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A591, Lake Road, Wansfell Road, Rothay Road, Compston Road, Rydal Road (A591), A66 (Keswick), A5091 and the A592. 2. A591 Rydal Road, Rydal - (Ref: TTROW/20056) From a point approx. 520 metres north west of its junction with Greenbank Road, extending in a north westerly direction for a distance of approx. 2.3 km.

Alternative Route for North Bound Non Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A591, Lake Road, A592, A5091 and the A66 (Keswick). Alternative Route for South Bound Non Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A591, A66 (Keswick), A592, Lake Road, Wansfell Road, Rothay Road and Compston Road. Alternative Route for Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A595, A66, M6, A590 and the A5092. Alternative Route for Non Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A593, A5084 and the A5092.

5. A683, Barbon - (Ref: TTROW/20063)

From its junction with the C5080, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approx. 2.6 km.

Alternative Route for Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A683, A65, M6 and the A684. Alternative Route for North Bound Non Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A683, A65, Lound Road, Kirkland (A6), Highgate, Lowther Street, New Road, Blackhall Road, Sandes Avenue, Longpool, Appleby Road (A685), Sandylands Road and the A684. Alternative Route for South Bound Non Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A683, A684, Sandylands Road, Appleby Road (A685), Longpool, Wildman Street, Stramongate, New Road, Aynnam Road, Lound Road and the A683.

6. A591 Ambleside Road, Windermere - (Ref: TTROW/20064) From its junction with Rayrigg Road (A592), extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 970 metres.

Alternative Route for North Bound Motorway Traffic: via the unrestricted sections of the A591, A590, M6 and the A66 (Keswick).
