Sandwell, Wednesbury /- Notice of the off street parking experiment.

SANDWELL METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL

Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Sandwell (“the Council”) has made The Borough Council Of Sandwell (Off Street Parking Places Order No. 25) (Free Parking Experimental Order) 2026 under Sections 9,

10, 32, 33, 35 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the 1984 Act”) and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the chief officer of police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the 1984 Act. The order has been made as an experimental order, which will have the effect of introducing the following amendments:-

a) Amend the existing Off Street Parking Places Order by suspending parking charges for up to 2 hours at the below Car parks:-

b) In troduce no return requirements at the below car parks: The car parks affected by this legal order are as below:-

i.  Albert Street Car Park, Wednesbury ii.  Market Place Car Park, Tipton iii.  Ridding Lane Car Park, Wednesbury

Any person who desires to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order may within six weeks from the date of the making of the Order apply to the High Court for this purpose.

Full details on this legal order including the maps showing the affected locations, a Statement of reasons for making the Order and the Order as made, may be examined at Sandwell Council House, Freeth Street, Oldbury, West Midlands, B69 3DE during normal office hours or via the Council’s website (www.Sandwell.gov.uk).

The Order was made on the 25th August 2026 and shall come into effect on the 01st September 2026. The Order shall continue in force for a maximum period of 18 months from the date on which it comes into operation.

The Council will be considering in due course whether the provisions of the experimental order should be continued in force indefinitely. Any person may object to the making of an Order for the purpose of such indefinite continuation within a period of six months beginning with the day on which the experimental Order came into force or, if the Order is varied by another Order or modified pursuant to section 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, beginning with the day on which the variation or modification, or the latest variation or modification, came into force.
