Hertfordshire - Public Footpath Orders & Temporary Road Closures Due To Various Works

Notice Of Confirmation Of Orders Highways Act 1980 - (Ardeley 22 Part And 23 Part) Creation Order 2026
On 6th August 2026 Hertfordshire County Council confirmed the above order made under section 26 of the Highways Act 1980. The effect of the order as confirmed is to create the public footpaths from Ardeley 24 at: TL 3245 2677 then ESE to the gap in the field boundary at: TL 3251 2676 then ESE across the field to Ardeley 22 at: TL 3255 2675 and from Ardeley 22 at: TL 3255 2675 then NE across the field to Ardeley 23 at: TL 3259 2682.

(Ardeley 22 Part And 23 Part) Extinguishment Order 2026
On 6th August 2026 Hertfordshire County Council confirmed the above order made under section 118 of the Highways Act 1980. The effect of the order as confirmed is to extinguish the public footpaths, part of Ardeley 22 from Ardeley 24 at: TL 3245 2678 then ESE to: TL 3255 2675, and part of Ardeley 23 from Ardeley 22 at: TL 3254 2676 then NE to: TL 3259 2682.

The orders come into force as from 27th August 2026, but if any person aggrieved by either order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980, as amended, or on the grounds that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or of any regulation made under the Act has not been complied with in relation to the order, he or she may, under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within 6 weeks from 27th August 2026, make an application to the High Court.

(Temporary Closing Of Bedford Street, Hitchin) Order 2026
Notice is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Bedford Street, Hitchin from a point in line with southern boundary of No.24 Bedford Street north eastwards for a distance of approximately 12m ("the Road").
There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 14 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(Temporary Closing Of York Road And Lancaster Road, Hitchin) Order 2026
Notice is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads ("the Roads"), except for access:-
1. that length of York Road, Hitchin from a point 6m northwest of its junction with Bunyan Road north eastwards for a distance of approximately 84m.
An alternative route will be via York Road, Bunyan Road, A505 Bunyan Road, Ickleford Road, Bearton Road and York Road.

2. that length of Lancaster Road, Hitchin from its junction with York Road north westwards for a distance of approximately 40m.
An alternative route will be via York Road, Bunyan Road, A505 Fishponds Road, Bearton Avenue and Lancaster Road.

The Order is needed because the replacement of an existing gas mains is proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.

The Order will come into effect from 16 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 7 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

(Temporary Closing Of Newlands Lane, Hitchin) Order 2026
Notice is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Newlands Lane, Hitchin from its junction with Gosmore Road north eastwards for a distance of approximately 115m ("the Road"), except for access.
An alternative route will be via Gosmore Road, B656 London Road and Newlands Lane.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 16 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 1 day to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(Temporary Closing Of Whitehorse Lane, Great Ashby) Order 2026
Notice is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Whitehorse Lane, Great Ashby from its junction with the Great Ashby Way roundabout south westwards and north westwards for a distance of approximately 210m ("the Road"), except for access.
An alternative route will be via Great Ashby Way and Whitehorse Lane.

The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 31 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 2 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(Temporary Closing Of Willian Road, Hitchin) Order No.2 2026
Notice is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Willian Road, Hitchin from its junction with Queenswood Drive north eastwards for a distance of approximately 206m ("the Road").
An alternative route will be via Willian Road, A505 Cambridge Road/Hitchin Road), Letchworth Lane and Willian Road.

The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 1 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 1 day to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.
