What is happening?

THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF NORTH TYNESIDE
(PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF WAITING AND LOADING) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2026
(ON STREET PARKING PLACES) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2026
(SPEED LIMITS) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2026
VARIATION ORDER 2026

North Tyneside Council gives notice that it proposes to make variation orders under Sections 1, 2, 4, 32, 35, 82, 83, 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The effect of the orders, if made, will be to vary the following orders as detailed below:

A. the North Tyneside (Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting and Loading) (Consolidation) Order 2026, so that:

1. no waiting at any time restrictions be introduced on the following lengths of road:

a) Ballast Hill Road, North Shields

• Both sides, from its junction with the access to Royal Quays Marina Boatyard, to a point 16 metres south of that junction;

• North side, from its junction with the access to Royal Quays Marina Boatyard, to a point 38 metres east of that junction;

• South side, from its junction with the access to Royal Quays Marina Boatyard, to a point 52 metres east of that junction.

b) David Street, Wallsend

• Both sides, from its junction with John Street, to a point 5 metres east of that junction;

• North side, from a point 3 metres west of its junction with Lisle Street, to a point 3 metres east of that junction;

• North side, from a point 4 metres west of its junction with Wilson Street, to a point 3 metres east of that junction.

c) John Street, Wallsend

• Both sides from its junction with North Road, to a point 9 metres south of that junction;

• East side, from a point 5 metres north of its junction with David Street, to a point 4 metres south of that junction;

• West side, from a point 7 metres north of its junction with David Street, to a point 5 metres south of that junction;

d) Lisle Street, Wallsend on both sides, from its junction with David Street, to a point 3 metres north of that junction.

e) Marden Avenue, Cullercoats on its North side, from a point 3 metres west of its junction with St Oswin’s Avenue, to a point 6 metres east of that junction.

f) North Road, Wallsend on its South side, from a point 6 metres west of its junction with John Street, to a point 7 metres east of that junction.

g) Saker Place, Wallsend on its South side, from its junction with John Street, to a point 3 metres west of that junction.

h) Station Road, Cullercoats on its South side, from a point 3 metres west of its junction with St Oswin’s Avenue, to a point 3 metres east of that junction.

i) St Oswin’s Avenue, Cullercoats

• Both sides, from its junction with Station Road, to a point 3 metres south of that junction;

• East side, from a point 2 metres north of its junction with the unnamed road to the north of Marden Avenue (east) to a point 2 metres south of that junction;

• East side, from a point 2 metres north of its junction with the unnamed road to the south of Station Road (east) to a point 2 metres south of that junction;

• East side, from its junction with Marden Avenue, to a point 6 metres north of that Junction;

• West side, from a point 2 metres north of its junction with the unnamed road to the north of Marden Avenue (west) to a point 2 metres south of that junction;

• West side, from a point 2 metres north of its junction with the unnamed road to the south of Station Road (west) to a point 2 metres south of that junction;

• West side, from its junction with Marden Avenue, to a point 7 metres north of that Junction.

j) Town Square, Wallsend on its North side, from its junction with John Street, to a point 5 metres west of that junction.

k) Un-named road off Wiltshire Drive forming the access road to Redesdale Primary School, Wallsend on its South side, from its junction with Wiltshire Drive to a point 7 metres west of that junction.

l) Un-named road to the north of Marden Avenue (west) on both sides, from its junction with St Oswin’s Avenue, to a point 5 metres west of that junction.

m) Wilson Street, Wallsend on both sides, from its junction with David Street, to a point 4 metres north of that junction.

n) Wiltshire Drive, Wallsend

• North-east side, from a point 61 metres south-east of its junction with Farndale to a point 95 metres south-east of that junction;

• South-west side, from its junction with the access road to Redesdale Primary School to a point 23 metres south-east of that junction.

2. no waiting at any time restrictions on the following road be amended so that they apply to the following extent:

a) Wiltshire Drive, Wallsend on its North side, from its junction with Station Road to a point 110 metres north west of that junction.

3. no waiting at any time restrictions on the following lengths of road be revoked:

a) Un-named road off Wiltshire Drive forming the access road to Redesdale First School, Wallsend on its South side, between its junction with Wiltshire Drive in a westerly direction for a distance of 15 metres;

b) Wiltshire Drive, Wallsend on its South-west side, between its junction with the access road to Redesdale First School and a point 23 metres south-east of its junction with the access road to Redesdale First School.

4. No waiting between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday restrictions be introduced on the following length of road:

a) John Street, Wallsend on its West side, from a point 27 metres south of its junction with North Road to a point 76 metres south of that junction.

5. No stopping on school entrance markings between 8.15am - 9.15am and 3pm - 4pm, Monday to Friday restrictions be introduced on the following length of road:

a) Un-named access road between Whitehouse Lane and the access to Whitehouse Primary School, North Shields on both sides, from its junction with Whitehouse Lane to a point 68 metres east of that junction.

6. No stopping on school entrance markings between 8.15am -

9.15am and 3pm - 4pm, Monday to Friday restrictions be amended so that they apply to the following extent:

a) Nelson Terrace, Percy Main (Percy Main Primary School) on its West side, from a point 31 metres north of its northern junction with Nelson Crescent to a point 27 metres south of that junction.

7. No stopping on school entrance markings between 8.15am - 9.15am and 3pm - 4pm, Monday to Friday restrictions on the following lengths of road be revoked:

a) Blanchland Terrace, North Shields on its East side, from a point 20 metres south of its junction with Preston Avenue to a point 81 metres south of that junction.

b) Preston Avenue, North Shields on both sides, from its junction with Blanchland Terrace to a point 124 metres east of that junction.

c) Whitehouse Lane, North Shields on both sides, from a point opposite the eastern boundary of no.163 to a point 26 metres east of the eastern boundary of no.163.

d) Wiltshire Drive, Wallsend (Redesdale Primary School)

• Access road to Redesdale Primary School – both sides from a point 10 metres west of its junction with Wiltshire Drive to a point 86 metres west of that junction;

• West side from a point 23 metres south of its junction with the access road to Redesdale Primary School to a point 67 metres south of that junction.

8. No stopping on school entrance markings between 7am and 5am, Monday to Friday restrictions be introduced on the following lengths of road:

a) Wiltshire Drive, Wallsend (Redesdale Primary School)

• Access road to Redesdale Primary School on its North side from its junction with Wiltshire Drive to a point 86 metres west of that junction;

• Access road to Redesdale Primary School on its South side from a point 7 metres west of its junction with Wiltshire Drive to a point 86 metres west of that junction;

• West side from its junction with the access road to Redesdale Primary School to a point 6 metres north-west of that junction.

9. No stopping on school entrance markings between 8am and 5am, Monday to Friday restrictions be introduced on the following lengths of road:

a) Blanchland Terrace, North Shields (King Edward Primary School) on its East side, from a point 20 metres south of its junction with Preston Avenue to a point 81 metres south of that junction.

b) Preston Avenue, North Shields (King Edward Primary School) on both sides, from its junction with Blanchland Terrace to a point 124 metres east of that junction.

10. No Loading and Unloading at any Time on All Days be introduced on the following lengths of road:

a) Wiltshire Drive, Wallsend

• North-east side, from a point 61 metres south-east of its junction with Farndale to a point 95 metres south-east of that junction;

• South-west side, from its junction with the access road to Redesdale Primary School to a point 23 metres south-east of that junction.

b) Un-named road off Wiltshire Drive forming the access road to Redesdale Primary School, Wallsend on its South side, from its junction with Wiltshire Drive to a point 7 metres west of that junction.

B. the North Tyneside (On Street Parking Places) (Consolidation) Order 2026, so that:

1. Limited Waiting without parking charges – Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm - 2 hours no return within 4 hours – be introduced on the following:

a) David Street, Wallsend

• North Side, from a point 3 metres east of its junction with Wilson Street to a point 22 metres east of that junction;

• North side, from a point 3 metres east of its junction with Lisle Street to a point 38 metres east of that junction;

• North side, from a point 5 metres east of its junction with John Street to a point 35 metres east of that junction;

• South Side, from a point 5 metres east of its junction with John Street to a point 129 metres east of that junction.

b) John Street, Wallsend

• East side, from a point 4 metres south of its junction David Street to a point 22 metres south of that junction;

• East side, from a point 9 metres south of its junction with North Road to a point 92 metres south of that junction;

• West side, from a point 5 metres south of its junction with David Street to a point 39 metres south of that junction;

• West side, from a point 7 metres north of its junction with David Street to a point 17 metres north of that junction;

• West Side, from a point 9 metres south of its junction with North Road to a point 27 metres south of that junction.

2. Limited Waiting without parking charges – All days 8am to 6pm - 2 hours no return within 4 hours – be introduced on the following:

a) St Oswin’s Avenue, Cullercoats

• East side, from a point 2 metres north of its junction with the unnamed road to the north of Marden Avenue (east) to a point 87 metres north of that junction;

• East side, from a point 2 metres north of its junction with the unnamed road to the south of Station Road (east) to a point 22 metres north of that junction;

• East side, from a point 6 metres north of its junction with Marden Avenue to a point 25 metres north of that junction;

• West side, from a point 2 metres north of its junction with the unnamed road to the north of Marden Avenue (west) to a point 88 metres north of that junction;

• West side, from a point 2 metres north of its junction with the unnamed road to the south of Station Road (west) to a point 21 metres north of that junction;

• West side, from a point 7 metres north of its junction with Marden Avenue to a point 25 metres north of that junction.

3. Streets for the purpose of the issue of Permits and Vouchers on the following lengths be introduced so that they apply as follows:

• Town Square Nos. 1-6 to be added to WD3 zone.
• All David Street to be added to WD3 zone.
• All John Street to be added to WD3 zone.
• All St Oswin’s Avenue to be added to CC2 zone.

C. the North Tyneside (Speed Limits) (Consolidation) Order 2026, so that:

1. 40mph speed limit restriction be amended so that it applies to the following extent:
a) Whitley Road (A191), Benton from a point 50 metres north east of its junction with (A186) Station Road to a point 150 metres south west of its junction with Chollerton Drive. (N.B. the remainder of A191 Whitley Road will consequently be subject to a 30mph speed limit)
