What is happening?

HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:

(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT MEASURES ON VARIOUS ROADS
IN BERKHAMSTED DURING THE ‘BERKO FIELDS FESTIVAL’) 

ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect on the following lengths of roads (“the Roads”) will be:-

1.                 To prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Murray Road/Castle Hill, Berkhamsted from its junction with Bridgewater Road north eastwards and south eastwards for a distance of approximately 684m, except for access.

There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the event.

2.                 To prohibit all vehicles from waiting at any time on both sides of the following lengths of Roads for the duration of the event:-

a)                 that length of Murray Road/Castle Hill, Berkhamsted from its junction with Bridgewater Road north eastwards and south eastwards for a distance of approximately 684m.

b)                 that length of Bridgewater Road, Berkhamsted from its junction with Brownlow Road north westwards to its junction with Delahay Rise, a distance of approximately 763m.

c)                 that length of Brownlow Road/New Road, Berkhamsted from its junction with Whitehill Road north eastwards to its junction with The Common, a distance of approximately 1712m.

d)                 that length of Castle Hill Avenue, Berkhamsted from its westernmost junction with Bridgewater Road north eastwards, south eastwards and south westwards for a distance of approximately 393m.

e)                 that length of Delahay Rise, Berkhamsted from its junction with Bridgewater Road north eastwards to its junction with Gaveston Drive, a distance of approximately 175m.

f)                  that length of Gaveston Drive, Berkhamsted from its junction with Delahay Rise south eastwards to its junction with Murray Road, a distance of approximately 335m.

g)                 that length of Whitehill Road/New Road, Berkhamsted from its junction with Brownlow Road south eastwards and north eastwards for a distance of approximately 617m.

The purpose of the Order is to ensure public safety and prevent accidents for the duration of the ‘Berko Fields Festival’

The Order will come into effect on 11 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The event is scheduled for 3 days and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Roads. (TEMPORARY CLOSING OF SPRING LANE, HEMEL HEMPSTEAD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Spring Lane, Hemel Hempstead from its junction with Galley Hill south eastwards and south westwards to its junction with Warners End Road, a distance of approximately 548m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via Galley Hill, Boxted Road and Warners End Road. The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 14 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF CROSS OAK ROAD, BERKHAMSTED) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Cross Oak Road, Berkhamsted from a point 89m north east of its junction with Shootersway north eastwards for a distance of approximately 103m (“the Road”). An alternative route will be via Cross Oak Road, Shootersway, Durrants Lane, Durrants Road, Shrublands Road and Cross Oak Road.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 15 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF LOWER YOTT ROAD, HEMEL HEMPSTEAD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Lower Yott Road, Hemel Hempstead from its junction with A414 St Albans Road north westwards and northwards to its junction with Windmill Road, a distance of approximately 159m (“the Road”), except for access.

An alternative route will be via A414 St Albans Road, White Hart Road and Windmill Road or via Windmill Road and Turners Hill.

The Order is needed because the replacement of an existing gas mains is proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 14 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 7 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF PARK VIEW ROAD, BERKHAMSTED) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Park View Road, Berkhamsted from its junction with A4251 High Street south westwards for a distance of approximately 67m (“the Road”).

An alternative route will be via A4251 High Street, A416 Kings Road, Charles Street and Park View Road.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 1 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 5 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING AND WAITING RESTRICTIONS ON A4251
(HIGH STREET/GOSSOMS END/HIGH STREET), BERKHAMSTED) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of A4251 (High Street/Gossoms End/ High Street), Berkhamsted from its junction with B4506 New Road south eastwards to its junction with A416 Kings Road, a distance of approximately 2030m (“the length of Roads”).

An alternative route will be via A4251 (High Street/Tring Road), A41

(Tring Interchange/unnamed road) and A4251 London Road/High Street). ADDITIONALLY all vehicles are prohibited from waiting at any time on both sides of this length of Roads, whilst works are in progress.

The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the length of Roads.

The Order will come into effect from 1 September 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 nights to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the length of Roads.

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF A4251 HIGH STREET, BERKHAMSTED) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of A4251 High Street, Berkhamsted from its junction with Water Lane south eastwards to its junction with Church Lane, a distance of approximately 190m (“the Road”), except for access. An alternative route will be via A4251 (High Street/Gossoms End/High Street/ Tring Road), A41 Tring Interchange/unnamed road) and A4251 London Road. The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.

The Order will come into effect from 31 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 1 day to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(SPEED LIMIT AMENDMENTS) ORDER 2026
THE HERTFORDSHIRE (VARIOUS ROADS, COUNTY OF HERTFORSHIRE)
(REVOCATIONS) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that the Hertfordshire County Council has made Orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (1984 Act) to amend various existing Orders in the County of Hertfordshire as specified in Schedule 1 and revoke Orders listed in Schedule 2 to this Notice. The Orders will come into effect on Monday 31 August 2026.

Documents giving more detailed particulars of the Orders may be viewed from 26 August 2026 to 7 October 2026 during office hours at Main Reception, Farnham House, Six Hills Way, Stevenage or online at  www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/trafficorders by selecting Dacorum and looking at Ref: J00126.

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Orders, or any of their provisions, on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the 1984 Act, or that any requirement of the 1984 Act or any Instrument made under it has not been complied with may, within 6 weeks from the date of this Notice, apply to the High Court for this purpose.

SCHEDULE 1: The following road names are amended from former Trunk Road designations to the roads’ current names: a) A41 to A4251 Hempstead Road

b)  A414 to A41 Two Waters Way/Interchange

c)  A5 to A5183 Dunstable Road

d)  London-Holyhead Trunk Road (A5) to A5183 Dunstable Road

SCHEDULE 2: The Order revokes the following Orders as they are no longer relevant:

The Trunk Roads (Restricted Roads) Order 1984

The Trunk Roads (Restricted Roads) (No. 23) Order 1968
