What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD
(JUNIOR AND MINI GREAT NORTH RUNS 2026) (GATESHEAD QUAYS AREA) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on 26 August 2026, the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order, following the consent of the Secretary of State and in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 16A - 16C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The Order is required to enable the holding of a series of events as detailed in Schedule 1 below, and for the safety of participants and spectators in those events. The effect of the Order, which commences at 15:00 on Friday 11 September 2026 and is valid until 19:00 on Saturday 12 September 2026, is to prohibit all vehicles (except authorised vehicles, participants and personnel involved in the Event and emergency services vehicles on duty) from proceeding along or Waiting, Loading or Stopping along the lengths of carriageway specified in Schedule 2 below. And a prohibition to all pedestrians and cyclists along the lengths of footway and cycleways as set out in Schedule 3 below.

The prohibitions as set out in the Schedules below will be operative at such times and to such extent as may be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Signed alternative routes will be in place whilst the prohibitions are in place.
