What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (A167 Sunderland Bridge to Butchers Race, Spennymoor) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road. A 2.66 kilometre length of A167 between its junctions with “The Honest Lawyer” Roundabout, Sunderland Bridge and Butchers Race Roundabout, Spennymoor/Hetto to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the northern side of the closure from A167 / B6300 roundabout, north on A167, north east, east and south east on A177 to Bowburn Interchange, south west and west on A688, and north on A167 the southern side of the closure and vice versa. An additional local diversion route will be signposted from A167 Butchers Race Roundabout, south west on York Hill Road and north on B6288 to Croxdale and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are required from 8pm on Saturday 12/9/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be 10 nights, to 6am each following morning. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
