Notice Of Proposal - The Borough Of Stevenage (Town Centre, Stevenage) - (On Street Pay-By-Phone And Pay-By-Plate Parking Places) - Order 2026
Notice Is Hereby Given that the Stevenage Borough Council, acting as agents for the Hertfordshire County Council and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police, proposes to make the above-named Order under Sections 32-35C, 45-47, 49 and 53 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
This order is proposed in order to relieve and prevent the congestion of traffic and improve the amenity of the area.
The effect of The Borough of Stevenage (Town Centre, Stevenage) (On Street Pay-By-Phone and Pay-By-Plate Parking Places) Order 2026 would be to designate new on-street parking spaces in Eastgate, opposite the rear of properties in Queensway between the garage block and the bend in the road, enabling drivers to park close to Market Place, subject to paying for parking. The further effect of the Order would be to update the regulation of existing pay-and-display parking places in Danestrete, Southgate, Swingate, The Quadrant and Westgate to enable payment using machines that do not require a paper ticket to be displayed, improving reliability and convenience for drivers.
The charges for parking in these parking places between 8:00am and 8:00pm, Monday to Saturday, would be:

The order would also revoke The Borough of Stevenage (Town Centre, Stevenage)(On Street Pay and Display and Pay By Phone) Order 2016 and The Borough of Stevenage (Town Centre, Stevenage)(On Street Pay and Display and Pay By Phone) Order 2016 (Amendment) Order 2023 as they would no longer be needed, this order having replaced them.
