What is happening?

THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF NORTH TYNESIDE
BENTON, CULLERCOATS, NORTH SHIELDS, WALLSEND AND WIDEOPEN
TOUCAN AND ZEBRA CROSSINGS

North Tyneside Council gives notice that under Section 23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police, it proposes to establish:

a) Signalised (Toucan) crossings on:

• (B1316) Billy Mill Lane, North Shields – at a point 7 metres south east of its junction with the southern (service) access to St Thomas More School;

• (A186) Station Road, Wallsend – at a point 17 metres north of its junction with Wiltshire Drive/ Mullen Road;

• Stalks Road, Wideopen – at a point 12 metres west of its junction with Rayleigh Drive;

• Whitley Road, Benton – at a point 20 metres west of its junction with (A186) Station Road.

b) Zebra crossings on:
• Wiltshire Drive, Wallsend – at a point 42 metres south-east of its junction with the access road to Redesdale Primary School;

• Ennerdale Road, Cullercoats – at a point 8 metres south of its junction with Farringdon Road.

The proposals will increase safety for all road users and contribute to ensuring that highway conditions are conducive to support greater usage of cycling, walking and wheeling

If you wish to object to the proposals you should send the grounds for your objection in writing to the undersigned or via email to democraticsupport@northtyneside.gov.uk by 16 September 2026 after below. Any objections received may be published as part of any reports to councillors on the matter.
