ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 

THE A24 GLA ROADS (HIGH STREET COLLIERS WOOD, TOOTING HIGH STREET, UPPER TOOTING ROAD, BALHAM HILL AND BALHAM HIGH ROAD, LONDON BOROUGHS OF MERTON AND WANDSWORTH) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC, STOPPING AND BANNED TURNS) ORDER 2026  

1. Transport for London having consulted with the London Borough of Wandsworth hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable installation of permanent bus stops works to take place on the A24 High Street Colliers Wood,Tooting High Street and Upper Tooting Road. 

3. The effects of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from: 

(1) entering or exiting Rinaldo Road at its junction with Balham High Road; 

(2) turning right onto Upper Tooting Road from Hebdon Road; 

(3) turning right into Hebdon Road from Upper Tooting Road; 

(4) turning right into Balham High Road from Ravenswood Road; 

(5) entering, exiting, stopping or proceeding on Aldis Street from its junction with Tooting High Street and a point17 metres south-east of the extended common boundary of Nos. 2 and 4 Aldis Street; 

(6) stopping on unnamed Road fronting Nos.40-56 Balham High Road between its junctions with Rinaldo Road and Caistor Road; 

(7) stopping in the Parking and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bays on Rinaldo Road, Yukon Road and Alderbrook Road; 

(8) entering or exiting Yukon Road and Alderbrook Road at its junction with Balham Hill; 

(9) stopping in Loading and Unloading Bay opposite No.149 Balham Hill; 

(10)stopping in Loading, Unloading and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay on Walpole Road; 

(11)stopping in Loading and Unloading Bay opposite Nos.28-36 High Street Collier’s Wood; 

(12)stopping in Electric Vehicle Charging Bay opposite No.46 High Street Collier’s Wood; 

(13)turning right from Baltic Close onto High Street Collier’s Wood; 

(14)turning right into Valley Gardens from High Street Collier’s Wood; 

(15)turning right from Valley Gardens onto High Street Collier’s Wood; 

(16)stopping in the Parking and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay on Valley Gardens; 

(17)stopping in the Parking and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay outside Nos 2a-2b Briscoe Road; 

(18)stopping in Loading Unloading and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay on Valley Gardens; 

(19)entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping on Briscoe Road from its junction with High Street Collier’s Wood to a point 11 metres north-west of the extended south-eastern building line of No. 26 High Street Collier's Wood;

(20)turning right from Walpole Road onto High Street Collier’s Wood; 

(21)stopping in the Loading and Unloading Only Bay outside No.268 Balham High Road; 

(22)stopping in Loading Unloading and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay outside No.2 Ritherdon Road; 

(23)stopping in Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay opposite No.2 Ritherdon Road; 

(24)stopping in Loading Unloading and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay outside No.238 Balham High Road; 

(25)stopping in Loading Unloading and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay adjacent to No.205 Balham High Road; 

(26)stopping on Balham High Road between its junctions with Ramsden Road and Elmfield Road; 

(27)entering priory road at its junction with Merton High Street/ High Street Collier’s Wood; 

(28)entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping on Balham Park Road between its junctions with Balham High Road and the extended south-western building line of No. 222 Balham High Road;

(29)turning right from Lochinvar Estate onto Rinaldo Road; 

(30)stopping in Loading Unloading and Disabled Persons’ Vehicle Only Bay on Aldis Street side of No.174 Tooting High Street. 

The order will permit all vehicles to use the north-eastbound bus lane on Tooting High Street between its junctions with Aldis Street and Sellincourt Road.  

The Order will be effective at certain times from 12:00 AM on 7th September 2026 until 11:59 PM on 31st October 2027 or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.  

4. The prohibition will not apply in respect of:

(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes; 

(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force an alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs: (for the closure of Balham Park Road) Balham High Road, Chestnut Grove and Boundaries Road to normal route of travel.(for the closure of Aldis Street) Tooting High Street, Sellincourt Road, Tooting High Street, Carlwell Street and Maybury Street to normal route of travel. (to access Balham High Road via Ravenswood Road) Balham High Road southbound, Balham Grove, Oldridge Road and Balham High Road to normal route of travel. (for the closure of  Alderbrook Road) Balham Hill, Malwood Road and Alderbrook Road to normal route of travel. (for the closure of Priory Road) High Street Colliers Wood, Tooting High Street, Mitcham Road, London Road, Holborn Way, Western Road and Christchurch Road to normal route of travel.
