What is happening?
LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 SECTION 14(1) (GAMBIA STREET, JOAN STREET, ABBEY STREET, MANOR PLACE)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
1. The Council of the London Borough of Southwark hereby gives notice that to enable bridge inspections by Network Rail or their appointed contractor, it intends to make an order, the effect of which is to prohibit vehicular traffic from entering part of the above named roads.
2. Whilst the works are in progress, or whilst the authorised traffic signs are in place no person shall cause any vehicle to enter, proceed, stop, wait, load or unload on
(a)Gambia Street, between Union Street and Scoresby Street.
(b)Joan Street, either side of the railway bridge.
(c)Abbey Street, between Druid Street and Enid Street.
(d)Manor Place, between Occupation Road and Crampton Street.
3. Exemptions will be provided in the Order to permit reasonable access to premises, so far as it is practical without interference with the execution of the said works.
4. The restrictions will not apply to any vehicle being used in connection with the said works, or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes or anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform.
5. The road closures will be in place on the following dates:
(a)22:00 on the 15th of September to 06:00 on the 16th of September 2026.
(b)22:00 on the 17th of September to 06:00 on the 18th of September 2026.
(c)22:00 on the 16th of September to 06:00 on the 17th of September 2026.
(d)22:00 on the 8th of September to 06:00 on the 9th of September, and 22:00 on the 9th of September to 06:00 on the 10th of September 2026.
6. A signed diversion will be in place.
7. This order remains valid for 18 months from the 3rd of September 2026. Further information may be obtained by contacting Road Network Management at ttmo@southwark.gov.uk
