(SPECIAL EVENT) ORDER 2026

Coming into Force: 17 September 2026
This order is made under Section 16A Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the annual Chipping Norton Mop Fair. It is promoted by Justin Gargan, Ubico Ltd, West Oxfordshire District Council, Avenue 4 Station Lane, Witney, OX28 4BN. The effect of the Order is that between 00:01hrs 17th September and 04:00hrs 20th September 2026 it is proposed to manage the traffic as follows:
PROHIBITION OF VEHICLES:
A44 Market Place – the length of main carriageway (A44) from its junction with New Street (A44) to its junction with High Street (Topside)
High Street link – from its junction with New Street (A44), eastwards to its junction with High Street (north of the Town Hall).
ONE-WAY TRAFFIC:
A44 Main Carriageway – Prohibition of southbound traffic from its junction with London Road (A44) to its junction with High Street (Topside) – permitted flow northwards.
High Street – the one-way southbound section of road between Horse Fair and Boots the Chemist will be reversed.
Albion Street – Prohibition of northbound traffic from its junction with Burford Road (A361) to its junction with London Road (A44) – permitted flow southwards.
A361 Burford Road – from its junction with Albion Street to its junction with West Street (A361) – permitted flow southeast to northwest.
A361 West Street – from its junction with Burford Road (A361) to its junction with Cattle Market – permitted flow northwards.
PROHIBITION OF WAITING:
High Street, East Side – from its junction with Cattle Market to its junction with the A44 main carriageway near Horse Fair (Topside).
Cattle Market, both sides – from its junction with West Street (A361) to its junction with High Street.
Exemptions are included for emergency services and event vehicles.
The alternative route for northbound traffic from the A44 New Street will be via the southern length of High Street, south, east, then northwards into High Street Topside to High Street proper to the A44 London Road. The route for southbound traffic will be from the A44 London Road via Albion Street, west into Burford Road and north into West Street to the A44 New Street.
The provisions of the following Orders shall be temporarily suspended, insofar only as they relate to permitted or restricted waiting in roads in this Special Event Order – The Oxfordshire County Council (Various Roads – West Oxfordshire) (Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting and Permitted Parking) Order 2013 (as amended), and The Oxfordshire County Council (West Oxfordshire District) (Disabled Persons Parking Places) Order 2006 (as amended). Also the Oxfordshire County Council (Market Place, Chipping Norton) (Traffic Regulation)
(Amendment) Order 1999 to remove the current one-way restriction from High Street.
