What is happening?

The Council of the London Borough of Southwark   

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 16A THE (RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC) SPECIAL EVENTS ORDER 2026 

1. The Council of the London Borough of Southwark hereby gives notice that it has made the above named Traffic Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, for the purposes specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to facilitate the Bermondsey Street Festival.

3. The effect of the Order is to prohibit any vehicle including cyclists from:

(a)entering or proceeding in the length of streets specified in the schedule to this notice on the date and between the hours specified in that schedule;

(b)parking, waiting, loading and unloading (including waiting for the purpose of delivering or collecting goods or loading and unloading a vehicle) in the length of street specified in the schedule to this notice.

The order will temporarily alter the following restrictions: 

(c)The one way restriction in Tanner Street, between Bermondsey Street and Archie Street will be suspended for access and egress purposes.

(d)The one way restriction in Leathermarket Street, between Weston Street and Morocco Street will be suspended for access and egress purposes.

(e)The one way restriction in Bermondsey Street, between Abbey Street and Crucifix Lane will be suspended for access and egress purposes.

(f) Suspension of the existing LTN (Low Traffic Neighbourhood) located between Whites Grounds and Leathermarket Street.

4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of

(a)any vehicle engaged with the special event;

(b)anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by the Council of the London Borough of
Southwark;

(c)any vehicle being used for police, fire brigade, or ambulance purposes, or for a statutory undertaker in an emergency.

5. The alternative routes will be adjacent roads as applicable.
