Cumberland - Temporary Road Closures Due To Gas Replacement Works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (C4036 IRISH STREET, WHITEHAVEN AND C4009 FINKLE STREET, ST BEES) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable gas replacement works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:
- C4036, Irish Street, Whitehaven from its junction with Roper Street, extending in an overall westerly direction for approx. 40m.
Alternative Route for vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight: via Lowther Street, Flatt Walks, Coach Road, Preston Street, and New Town.
Alternative Route for vehicles not exceeding 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight: via Scotch Street, Roper Street, Market Place, and Swingpump Lane.
Duration: From 21 September 2026 for approx. 3 days (Ref: TTROC/19597)
- C4009, Finkle Street, St Bees from its junction with the B5345, Main Street extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 120m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Finkle Street, High House Road, C4010, C4008, C4009 Outrigg and B5345 Main Street.
Duration: From 12 October 2026 for approx. 5 weeks (Ref: TTROC/19024)
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 21 September 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
