Hackney Carriage Fare Increase
Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976
In accordance with the provisions of the above Act, Preston City Council gives Notice that it proposes to amend the table of fares for Hackney Carriages plying for hire, as set out below, such amendments to take effect on 1 October 2026.
Any objection to the proposed amendments should be made in writing and addressed to the Licensing Manager at the address below, to be received no later than 22nd Spetember 2026.
If objection is duly made and is not withdrawn, the Council shall set a further date, not later than two months after the specified date on which the revised table of fares shall come into force, with or without modifications, as decided by them after consideration of the objections. A copy of this Notice has been made available for inspection at the address below.

TARIFF 1 - For hiring commenced between 7.00 am and 10.00 pm Monday to Saturday:
For the first 380 yards £2.20
For each succeeding 145 yards £0.20
After 2.5 miles for each succeeding 130 yards .....................................................£0.20
TARIFF 2 - For hiring commenced between 10.00 pm and 7.00 am Monday to Saturday, all day Sunday, Statutory Holidays and Bank Holidays (excluding Christmas and New Year period)
For the first 380 yards £2.80
For each succeeding 130 yards £0.20
TARIFF 3 - For hiring commenced between 6.00 pm Christmas Eve and 7.00 am
27 December and between 6.00 pm on New Year’s Eve and 7.00 am 2 January:
For the first 380 yards £4.40
For each succeeding 145 yards £0.40
Please note: The waiting time on each tariff for each period of one minute (or part)is.... ……£0.40
ADDITIONAL CHARGES
For each article of luggage conveyed outside the passenger compartment of the carriage £0.20
For each person in excess of one for each whole journey £0.20
SOILING CHARGE
To cover cleaning and loss of income, where the interior of the vehicle is soiled
(at the driver’s discretion) not exceeding. £50.00
