TRAFFIC CALMING NOTICE -
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF A SPEED TABLE AND
SPEED CUSHIONS AT TUNSTALL BANK, SUNDERLAND
Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Sunderland in exercise of its powers under Section 90A of the Highways Act 1980 and after consultation in accordance with Section 90C of the Highways Act 1980 proposes to construct speed cushions complying with the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 as traffic calming measures to reduce vehicle speeds along Tunstall Bank, Sunderland. The current speed limit on the above length of road is 20mph. The road humps are in the form of one speed table and two speed cushions which are raised sections of the carriageway designed to control vehicle speeds. The location, nature and dimensions of the proposed Speed Table is as follows:- Dimensions: Overall Width: Full width of Carriageway;
Length: 20000mm; On/off Gradient: 1:15; Plateau Length: 17000mm; Max Height: 100mm. Location: Tunstall Bank from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 6.6 metres west of the extended party property boundary of 6 & 7 Skipsea View.
The locations, nature and dimensions of the proposed Speed Cushions are as follows:- Dimensions: Overall Width: 1800mm; Length: 2000mm; On/off Gradient: 1:8; Plateau Length: 800mm; Max Height: 75mm. Locations: A single speed cushion will be centred longitudinally at the given reference points:- (i)Tunstall Bank, on the eastbound carriageway, from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 2.0 metres west of the extended party property boundary of 14 & 15 Skipsea View; and (ii)Tunstall Bank, on the westbound carriageway, from the centre of the carriageway, at a point 28.2 metres east of the extended party property boundary of 14 & 15 Skipsea View. The plans and a statement of reasons for the above proposed road humps may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until the end of the consultation period.
