What is happening?
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 IPSWICH BOROUGH COUNCIL (SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL (BOROUGH OF IPSWICH) (STOPPING, WAITING AND LOADING PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS AND ON-STREET PARKING PLACES) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2019) ON-STREET PARKING PLACES (KEY STREET) ORDER 2026
Notice is hereby given that Ipswich Borough Council ("the Council") under Sections 1, 2, 4, 45 and 46 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers, has made the above Order, the effect of which is to amend certain aspects of the Suffolk County Council (Borough of Ipswich) (Stopping, Waiting and Loading Prohibitions and Restrictions and On-Street Parking Places) (Consolidation) Order 2019, as amended, by replacing revision 4 of Map Tile GM123 with revision 5 of the same Map Tile; and to amend Schedule 1 and Schedule 7 of the Order.
The effect of this is to designate and create a 19 metre length public paid for parking bay ('pay and display') on Key Street in the Borough of Ipswich adjacent to the side of 1A Wherry Quay with charging hours from 8am to 10pm daily and with the fees for leaving a vehicle being as follows:
Up to 30 minutes = £1.40 Up to 1 hour = £2.60 Up to 2 hours = £4.40 Up to 3 hours = £6.20
The maximum stay will be 3 hours during charging hours (i.e. daily between 8am and 10pm) with no return permitted within 1 hour and the class of vehicle will be up to 3500kg GVW.
Exemptions to the waiting restrictions allow a vehicle to wait for so long as is necessary to board or alight or to load or unload for building, industrial or demolition works; for emergency services; for the maintenance of the road or its services and to fulfil statutory duties. The usual exemptions for blue badge holders will apply.
The Order was made on 20th August 2026 and will come into effect on 24th August 2026. A copy of the Order and other applicable documents can be viewed on the Council's website at: www.ipswich.gov.uk/services/parking. They may also be viewed free of charge at the Council's offices at Grafton House, 15-17 Russell Road, Ipswich, IP1 2DE between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
If any person wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under that Act has not been complied with, that person may, within 6 weeks from the date on which the Order was made apply for the purpose to the High Court.
