Essex - Temporary Road Closures, One-Way Suspension and Clearway Restrictions

What is happening?

Essex County Council

(Church Street, Harwich) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Suspension of One Way) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily close that length of Church Street, Harwich in the District of Tendring, from a point approximately 95m south east of its junction with The Quay for a distance of approximately 20m in a south easterly direction.

2. To temporarily suspend the one-way restriction in that length of Church Street, Harwich from its junction with Quay to its junction with Market Street as detailed in “Essex County Council (Harwich and Dovercourt) (One-Way Traffic) Order 1991” for the duration of the above closure only for access.

The closure/suspension is scheduled to commence on 21st September 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03768281588 – Anglian Water Business (National)). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure/suspension is required for the safety of the public and workforce while chamber installation works are undertaken by Anglian Water Business (National).

An alternative route is available via Market Street, Kings Head Street, The Quay and vice versa (with access only into Church Street).

The Order will come into effect on 28th August 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Harwich Road, Wix) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Harwich Road, Wix in the District of Tendring, from its junction with A120 From J B1035 To J B1352 for a distance of approximately 155m in a south easterly then south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 21st September 2026 for 7 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP20158802452 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while culvert maintenance works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via Harwich Road, Colchester Road, A120 vice versa (with access only into Harwich Road).

The Order will come into effect on 28th August 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Wrabness Road, Ramsey) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Wrabness Road, Ramsey in the District of Tendring, from a point approximately 1215m north west then south west of its junction with Ray Lane for a distance of approximately 20m in a south westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 15th September 2026 for 8 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30044346447 – UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new service works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.

An alternative route is available via A120, B1035, B1032 and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 28th August 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(High Street, Harwich & Bay Road & Station Road, Dovercourt)

(Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily introduce a ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ on that length of High Street, Harwich in the District of Tendring, from its junction with Crown Lane for a distance of approximately 45m in a south westerly direction.

2. To temporarily introduce a ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ on that length of Bay Road, Dovercourt, in the District of Tendring, from its junction with High Street to its junction with Bagshaw Road a distance of approximately 25m.

3. To temporarily introduce a ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ on that length of Station Road, Dovercourt, in the District of Tendring, from its junction with High Street for a distance of approximately 15m in a north westerly direction.

“The Essex County Council (Tendring District) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of roads only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The clearways are scheduled to continue from on 17th August 2026 for 128 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP20144045273, EP20184378904 & EP20135951866 – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The clearways are required for the safety of the public and workforce public realm improvements are undertaken by Essex County Council on Kingsway.

The Order came into effect on 17th August 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
