Cosham Interchange - Proposed Bus Facilities
What is happening?
PROPOSED BUS FACILITIES NORTHERN ROAD & COSHAM PARK (COSHAM INTERCHANGE) (P056-25)
1. Notice is hereby given that the Portsmouth City Council proposes to make the following Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984: The Portsmouth City Council (Northern Road Bus Lane and Portsmouth Road North of Cosham Park Bus Gate) Order 2025. The effect of the Order would be:
i) To change the "No Entry Except buses" restriction in Portsmouth Road North of Cosham Park (also known as Cosham Interchange) eastbound from A397 Northern Road to Portsmouth Road to a "Bus Gate including cycles, taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs licensed by Portsmouth City Council)"
ii) To change the "No Entry Except Buses" restriction in the link road from Roebuck Close to Cosham Interchange to a "Bus Gate including cycles"
iii) To introduce a "No Right Turn" in Northern Road to prohibit vehicles turning right into Cosham Interchange
iv) To change the "Bus Lane including cycles and taxis" restriction in Northern Road southbound from Cosham Health Centre to Cosham Interchange to a "Bus Lane including cycles, taxis and Public Hire Vehicles (PHVs licensed by Portsmouth City Council )"

3. Persons wishing to object to or make other representations with regard to these proposals must do so in writing, stating the grounds on which they are made. Representations must be sent to
or by post to TRO team, Portsmouth City Council, Civic Offices, Portsmouth PO1 2NE, quoting ref P056-25 within 21 days of the date of this Notice (i.e. by 11 September 2026).
Under requirements of current access to information legislation, please note that all representations submitted in response to this Notice may be made available for public inspection. Full details of the Council’s Data Protection privacy notice can be viewed on the website.
PLEASE NOTE: This Notice replaces the Public Notice published on 21 November 2025. Any representations received in response to the previous Public Notice are still valid.
