What is happening?
THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD (PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY BL/76/2 (SKIFF INN LEVEL CROSSING)-FOOTPATH CLOSURE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026 - NOTICE OF EXTENSION
On the 18 February 2026 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which was to temporarily prohibit any pedestrian movement on a section of the BL/76/2, which crosses the Skiff Inn Level Crossing, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of 10 metres. The Order was required to ensure safety of the public. The Order came into force on the 26 February 2026.
The maximum duration of the Order was 6 months.
NOTICE IS NOW HEREBY GIVEN that on the 18 August 2026, the Secretary of State granted an extension to this Order until the 25 August 2027 or until the completion of the works; whichever is the earlier. The works being to make safe this level crossing.
During the works all pedestrians will be prohibited from proceeding along the above footpath.During the prohibition there will be a signed diversion in place. - with traffic management to be applied to divert pedestrian users 200 metres east via an underpass.
