What is happening?

Temporary Closure of Rax Lane, Bridport

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along RAX LANE, BRIDPORT alongside the Lyric Theatre, a distance of approximately 25 metres. The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 07 September 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 30 November 2026.

This Order will enable William James Scaffolding, safe access to facilitate scaffolding to enable reroofing of the Lyric Theatre.

On this occasion there will be no specified alternative route for diverted traffic.

Temporary Closure of Public Bridleway W1/70, Bridport

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists will be prohibited from proceeding along Public Bridleway W1/70, from grid reference SY 46886 91432 to grid reference SY 46862 91394, a distance of approximately 70 metres. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.

It will come into operation on 07 September 2026 and remain in force for 26 weeks, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed on 20 November 2026 and can be extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport, if necessary.

This Order will enable National Grid to replace the electricity substation.

The alternative route will be from grid reference SY 46886 91432 head north along Coopers drive for 270m to SY 46938 91668, the junction with Valley Road. From SY 46938 91668 head west along Valley Road for 190m to SY 46759 91704 the junction with Chestnut Road. From SY 46759 91704 head southwest for 140m to SY 46675 91626 the junction with Burton Road, B3157. From SY 46675 91626 head south along Burton Road for 280m to SY 46689 91386 the junction of Burton Road and bridleway W1/62. From SY 46689 91386 follow bridleway W1/62 north then east for 240m to SY 46862 91394.
