What is happening?

SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL
Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Regulation 7 of the Local Authorities Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996
SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL (40mph Speed Limit at Various Locations) Order 2026 (Order 2 of 2026) (‘Order’)

1. SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL gives notice that it has made an Order in exercise of its powers under sections 84(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and any other enabling powers after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the 1984 Act. If the Order comes into force, the following will apply:
 a) No person shall drive any motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 40 miles per 
hour on any road or length of road specified in Schedule 1 to this notice.

2. The Order shall come into force on the date on which the notice is first 
published.


3. This Order revokes any previous Orders imposing a speed limit on the lengths of road referred to in the Schedule to this Order in so far as they relate to the lengths of road referred to in Schedule 1 to this Order.


4. Special forces drivers using vehicles in response to a national security 
emergency or whilst being trained or practicing to do so, and any vehicle being used for emergency services purposes, are exempted from the speed limits imposed by this Order.


5. A copy of this notice, the Order, a plan showing the parts of the highway affected and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order may be inspected free of charge on the Council’s website at https://www.slough.gov.uk/public-notices-2/public-notices-orders/3 or at the locations listed below in normal opening hours (excluding bank holidays and public holidays):

 • The Curve, William Street, Slough SL1 1XY

6. Any person wishing to challenge the Order on the grounds that it is not 
within the powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or Local Authorities Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996, or that 
any requirements of that, or of any instrument made under it, have not been 
complied with, may apply to the High Court within six weeks from the date the Order was made.

Wexham Road 35 metres north from the junction of Knolton Way to 
the Borough boundary in Wexham Road.
Uxbridge Road 
(A412)
From a point 25 metres north from its junction with 
the Wellington Street (A4) to the Borough boundary.
Sutton Lane From a point 52 metres south of the junction with 
Parlaunt Road to a point 57 metres north of its 
junction with the centre line of Trent Road.
Hurricane Way From the junction with Sutton Lane to a point 26 
metres in Hurricane Way.
Hollow Hill Lane From a point 19 metres north of the railway bridge to 
the Borough boundary.
Slough Road (A332) From a point 80 metres south of the junction with 
Ragstone Road to the Borough boundary.
Ditton Park Road From a point 98.5 metres of its junction with London 
Road (A4) to the Borough boundary.



Statement of Reasons

The 40mph order is an update and consolidation of historic orders made by the Slough Borough Council for 40mph speed limit roads set out in Schedule 1.
In accordance with its duty under section 122 of the 1984 Act Slough Borough Council exercises the functions conferred on it by the 1984 Act, sofar as practical having had regard to:
•the desirability of securing and maintaining reasonable access to premises, 
through allowing access in the case of emergencies and imposing restrictions 
on hours;
• the effect on the amenities of any locality affected and the importance of 
regulating and restricting the use of roads by heavy commercial vehicles, so as to preserve or improve the amenities of the areas through which the roads run;
• the strategy prepared under section 80 of the Environment Act 1995, through imposing restrictions on hours and vehicle classes; and
• the importance of facilitating the passage of public service vehicles and of securing the safety and convenience of persons using or desiring to use such vehicles
• to secure the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of vehicular and 
other traffic (including pedestrians) and the provision of suitable and adequate parking facilities on and off the highway
