Chester-le-Street - Temporary Road Closures Due To Gas Main Replacement Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (Seventh and Eighth Avenues, Chester-Le-Street) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road a 253 metres length of Seventh Avenue from the junction with The Avenue at the western side of closure in an easterly direction to junction with Jacques Terrace and a 207 metres length of Eighth Avenue, Chester-le-Street from the junction with The Avenue at the western side of closure in an easterly direction to junction with Jacques Terrace to enable gas main replacement works to be undertaken. Throughout the period of closure, any alternative diversion to vehicular traffic will be signposted on site. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence at 8am on 7/9/2026 and anticipated to be completed 9 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
