THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (RAMSAY BROW, WORKINGTON) (DETRUNKING) ORDER 202X

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR TRANSPORT hereby gives notice that he proposes to make an Order under sections 10(2) and 12(3) of the Highways Act 1980 which will provide that an area of the A66 Trunk Road from a point 24.0 metres west of its junction with the A596 Washington Street and north of Wilson Street, Workington, having a maximum length of 9.0 metres and having a maximum width of 16.3 metres, shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road from the date on which the Order comes into force. Cumberland Council will become the responsible highway authority for the road upon its detrunking.

COPIES of the draft Order and the plan referred to in it may be inspected free of charge in the six weeks commencing from 20 August 2026 at the offices of Cumberland Council, Cumbria House, 117 Botchergate, Carlisle, Cumbria CA1 1RD between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday inclusive; and at Workington Library, Vulcan’s Lane, Workington CA14 2ND during the following hours: -

Monday: 9 am – 6 pm; Tuesday: 9 am – 5 pm; Wednesday: 9 am – 6 pm; Thursday and Friday: 9 am – 5 pm; Saturday: 9 am – 2 pm.

ANY PERSON may object to the making of the Order within six weeks from the date of first publication of this notice by writing to the Secretary of State for Transport, C/o Transport Infrastructure Planning Casework Unit, PO Box 1393, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE99 5FQ, or to nationalcasework@dft.gov.uk quoting the title of this Notice and stating the grounds of objection. In preparing an objection and the statement of grounds of objection, it should be borne in mind that the substance of any objection or representation may be communicated to other people who may be affected by it.

In submitting an objection or representation, it should be noted that your personal data and correspondence will be shared with Cumberland Council as the promoting authority for the scheme. Should the Order become the subject of a Public Inquiry all correspondence will be copied to the Inspector conducting the Inquiry and will be kept in the Public Inquiry library, where it is publicly available.

If you do not wish your personal data to be forwarded, please state your reasons when submitting your objection or representation and the Secretary of State will send a copy of your representations, with your name and address removed, to Cumberland and if there is to be a Public Inquiry they will be seen by the Inspector who may give them less weight as a result. Cumberland Council may disclose your objections or representations, with your name and address removed to other parties acting on its behalf.
