What is happening?

CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

(DURANT ROAD) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne intend, not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

2. The effect of the order is to: -

a. suspend the existing Bus Lane restrictions on:

i. Market Street, eastbound - from its junction with Oxford Street in an easterly direction for a distance of 25 metres, and,

ii. Market Street, westbound - from its junction with Carliol Street to its junction with Pilgrim Street.b. prohibit any vehicular traffic to proceed on Durant Road, between Saville Place Carpark and a point 117 metres east of its junction with John Dobson Street.

3. Appropriate traffic management will be in place during the temporary suspension of the bus lane.

4. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles engaged in the works.

5. The Order will come into operation on 20 September 2026 at 08:00 and will continue, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed, up to 20 September 2026 at 18:00 or until the proposed works are completed, whichever is the earlier.
