Church Bank - Temporary Road Closure Due To Resurfacing Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (Church Bank, Shotley Bridge) (Temporary Road Closure, Suspension and Revocation) Order 2026
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road.
A 230 metre length of Church Bank that extends westerly from the access to the Church car park, Shotley Bridge. Suspension It will be necessary to suspend the No Entry restriction at the western end of Church Bank to permit local resident access, as detailed in the County of Durham (Church Bank, Shotley Bridge) (Prohibition of Entry) Order 1988 to enable footway and carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken. Revocation The order also revokes in its entirety The County Council of Durham (Church Bank, Shotley Bridge)(Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026.
An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the eastern side of the closure from Benfieldside Road north, then south west on B6310 Snows Green Road to the western side of the closure. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are required from Monday 7/9/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be around 27 working (weekday) days. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
