NOTICE OF MAKING OF AN ORDER

HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 AND WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981

THE EAST SUSSEX

(Public Footpath Chalvington with Ripe 18 (part))

PUBLIC PATH DIVERSION ORDER 2026 The above Order was made on 7th August 2026 under Section 119 of the Highways Act 1980.

The Order will divert part of public footpath Chalvington with Ripe 18 running for 375 metres in an east south easterly direction from TQ 5235 1120 to TQ 5272 1113; then in a south easterly direction for 397 metres to TQ 5300 1085; to a new route having a width of 5 metres and running for 414 metres in a generally southeasterly direction from TQ 5235 1119 to TQ 5263 1089, then for 196 metres in a north-easterly direction to TQ 5279 1100, then for 273 metres in a south-easterly direction to TQ 5300 1085.

A copy of the Order and Order Map and an explanatory statement have been deposited and can be inspected free of charge at Main Reception, East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes on Mondays to Fridays between 9.00am and 4.00pm; and at Lewes District Council’s Offices, 6 High Street, Lewes, BN7 2AD Mondays to Fridays between 9.00am and 5.00pm. Copies of the Order may also be purchased from the County Council (price £1.00).

Any representations about or objections to the Order may be sent in writing to Rights of Way & Access Team, East Sussex County Council, West D, County Hall, St Annes Crescent, Lewes BN7 1UE, or via email row.consultations@eastsussex.gov.uk, no later than 11th September 2026. Please state the grounds on which they are made and quote reference CHV/18/1.

If no such representations or objections are duly made, or if any so made are withdrawn, the East Sussex County Council may confirm the Order as an unopposed Order.  If the Order is sent to the Secretary of State for the Environment for confirmation any representations and objections which have not been withdrawn will be sent with the Order. 

The East Sussex (A265 Burwash Road, Broad Oak/Heathfield)

(Temporary 30 mph Speed Limit) Order 2026

To allow UKPN to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily restrict all traffic using the following lengths of road to a speed not exceeding 30 mph:

Temporary 30 mph Speed Limit

Burwash Road – from the junction with C406 Halley Road to the junction with A265 Heathfield Road.

The Order commences 17 August 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier. (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

To allow UKPN to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure Royal Oak Lane – for its entire length.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible.

The Order commences 17 August 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 17 and 21 August 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Old Church Lane – from the junction with U5012 Whitfeld Lane to St Peters Old Church.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible.

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Spatham Lane – from the junction with B2116 Lewes Road to the junction with C71 Folders Lane East.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C71 Folders Lane East – B2112 Common Lane, North End, High Street – B2116 Lewes Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 18 August 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 18 and 20 August 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

Temporary Road Closure

Beggars Wood Road – from the junction with A275 East Grinstead Road to the junction with C322 North Common Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A272 Haywards Heath Road – A275 East Grinstead Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 17 August 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 17 and 31 August 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

West Street Lane – from the junction with U7596 Tubwell Lane to the junction with B2203 Maynards Green Road.

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Newick Lane – from the junction with C14 Stone Cross to the junction with A265 Burwash Road. 

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C14 Stone Cross – A267 Wellbrook, Wellbrook Hill, Mayfield Road, Heathfield Road, Cross in Hand Road – A265 Cross in Hand Road, High Street, Mutton Hall Hill, Burwash Road and vice versa. The Order commenced 22 April 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 20 and 21 August 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Nettlesworth Lane – from the junction with C406 School Hill to the junction with C406 Nettlesworth Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C406 School Hill – C589 Old Heathfield Road – B2096 Cade Street – C16 Chapel Lane – C409 White Birch Lane, Church Hill, Hammer Lane – C596 Clappers Lane, Foords Lane and vice versa.

The Order commenced 10 November 2025 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 17 and 18 August 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

To allow Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Grove Hill – from the junction with U7692 Mill Lane to the junction with C344 Cinderford Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C208 Grove Hill, Marle Green, Horebeech Lane – A267 Horam Road, Eastbourne Road, North Street – B2104 North Street – A271 Lower Horsebridge, Upper Horsebridge, Hawkswood Road – C208 Park Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 20 August 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 20 August 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

To allow Openreach to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Rocks Lane – from the junction with A26 Five Ash Down to the junction with C402 Hurstwood Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C402 Hurstwood Road – A272 Lephams Bridge Road, Buxted Road, Budletts Lane – A26 Five Ash Down and vice versa.

To allow SGN to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which continues temporarily to close the following length of road:

Temporary Road Closure

Fletching Street – from the junction with C14 Tunbridge Wells Road to the junction with C14 Coggins Mill Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C14 Tunbridge Wells Road – A267 Tunbridge Wells Road, Argos Hill, Tunbridge Wells Road – C568 Lake Street – C14 Coggins Mill Lane and vice versa. The Order commences 17 August 2026 and is made following the issuing of a Temporary Notice dated 6 July 2026 and a Temporary Successive Notice dated 27 July 2026 under the relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended. The Order lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated the closure will be in place between 17 and 31 August 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

Palesgate Lane – from the junction with B2157 Green Lane to the junction with B2100 Rotherfield Road.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via B2157 Green Lane – B2100 Crowborough Hill, Rotherfield Road and vice versa.

The Order commences 1 September 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 1 September 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic northbound via C203 Ditchling Road (BHCC) – C4780 Coldean Lane (BHCC) – A27(T), Lewes Road, Brighton Road, Ashcombe roundabout – A277 Brighton Road – A275 Nevill Road, Offham Road, The Street – B2116 Ditchling Road, Lewes Road – B2112 South Street and southbound via B2112 South Street – B2116 Lewes Road,  Ditchling Road – A275 The Street, Offham Road, Nevill Road – A277 Brighton Road – A27(T) Ashcombe roundabout, Brighton Road, Brighton Bypass Slip Off – C4500 Carden Avenue South roundabout (BHCC), Carden Avenue North roundabout (BHCC) –C4780 Coldean Lane (BHCC) – C203  Ditchling Road (BHCC).

The Order commences 2 September 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken on 2 and 3 September 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.
