What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (C2040) OULTON AND WATER STREET, CARLISLE
(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:
- C2040 Oulton, from its junction with Kings Garth, extending in a westerly direction for approx. 300m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C2040, A596, Wigton, B5302, C2050 and B5307 Newton Arlosh.
Duration: From 1 September 2026 for approx. 16 days (Ref: TTROC/18637)
- Water Street, Carlisle, from its junction with South George Street, extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 30m.
There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.
Duration: From 14 September 2026 for approx. 12 days (Ref: TTROC/19331)
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 1 September 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
