Aycliffe - Temporary Road Closures due to Carriageway Resurfacing Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (A167 and B6444 St Andrews Way Roundabout, Aycliffe) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road.

1.a 964 metre length of A167 from the access to Forest Park, and including the northbound exit slip road onto A167, to the access to St Andrew’s Church.

2.a 525 metre length of B6444 St Andrews Way between its junctions with A167 and Millennium Way.

3. a 54 metre length of Lime Lane that extends eastwards from its junction with A167 to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken.

Alternative routes will be available to vehicular traffic from

1. the south eastern side of the closure from A1(M), continuing north easterly on A1(M) from junction 59 to Junction 60, then west on A689 to Rushyford and southerly on A167 to St Cuthberts Way, and locally from St Cuthberts Way, south on Durham Way North, west on Durham Way and south on Durham Way South to B6444 Heighington Lane.

2. western side of the closure from B6444 St Andrews Way north and westerly on B6444 Heighington Lane to A6072, south onto A68 and south east to A1(M) Junction 58 Burtree, and vice versa.

3. south eastern side of the closure from A167 into Darlington then west and north west on A67 to A1(M) Junction 58 Burtree, and vice versa.

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on 3/9/2026 and are required between 8pm and 6pm for the duration of the works anticipated to be 9 nights. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
